Meshell Will, 38, went missing on August 24, 2013, after last being seen in Keystone, and her decomposed body was found a week later along Iron Mountain Road by a tourist taking photos. For years, her autopsy remained inconclusive, leaving the case open and suspicious until a 2021 pathology review reclassified her death as a homicide. That same year, her boyfriend, Richard Melvin Schmitz, was arrested and later entered an Alford plea to second-degree manslaughter in 2024, receiving a ten-year sentence with credit for time served. Even with the conviction, many close to Meshell believe the full circumstances of her death remain unclear, and the case continues to cast a shadow over the community more than a decade later.
