Randy Dixon was murdered on November 14, 1993, at a remote campsite near China Gulch Road in Hill City, South Dakota (Left). He was shot in the head by William J. Helmer during an argument. After the killing, Helmer dismembered Dixon's body, removing his head and hands with an axe in an attempt to prevent identification. Dixon's rerains were later recovered at the bottom of a cliff off Sheridan Lake Road (Right) and the case led to a detailed investigation that ultimately resulted in Helmer being convicted of first-degree murder.
